Unstoppable Gaming Event – A Weekend of Games, Community, and More

Writer: Phil Griffiths @ TFTPhil Griffiths @ TFT

On Sunday, we had the pleasure of attending the Unstoppable Gaming Event (Unstoppable Gaming) in Newcastle. The event was hosted by the minds behind the successful independent tech store, Canny Clever, based in Whitley Bay.

A New Gaming Experience This was the first Unstoppable Gaming Event, running from 10:30 AM

until around 5:00 PM. While many might immediately associate gaming with PCs and consoles, this event broadened the scope to include card games such as Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon, as well as board games and Warhammer. The diversity of gaming options was refreshing and showcased the wide appeal of tabletop gaming culture.

Adding to the excitement was a strong Marvel presence. One of the highlights was the attendance of Ron Ashtiani, an artist and creative business leader with an impressive portfolio, having worked on projects for Marvel, J.K. Rowling, Warner Bros, Microsoft, and Sony. His insights into the gaming and creative industries added an extra layer of depth to the event.

High-End Gaming Rigs and Competitive Play

A large number of gaming PCs were supplied by Logix, running Marvel Rivals, allowing attendees to form teams and battle against each other in fast-paced action. A car racing rig was also set up, adding a competitive and immersive experience to the mix.

A Well-Attended and Well-Organised Event

The event was held at The Biscuit Factory, an independent art gallery in Newcastle. The venue itself was an excellent choice, providing an aesthetically pleasing backdrop for the day’s activities. The staff were welcoming and helpful, ensuring a smooth experience for attendees.

Despite being the first event of its kind, several hundred attendees showed up, proving that there is strong interest in a more diverse and inclusive gaming experience in the area.

Exploring Newcastle – Our Stay and Dining Experiences

Since we were in Newcastle for the weekend, we took the opportunity to explore the local area. We stayed at Tynemouth 61 Guest House and Tea Room, which had previously been featured on Four in a Bed. Our host, Steven, was incredibly welcoming and prepared an amazing breakfast for us, making our stay all the more enjoyable.

For food, we visited a few standout local restaurants. One of the highlights was The Gulshan, an Indian restaurant that served some of the best Indian cuisine we’ve had. The ambiance was so immersive that it felt as if we had been transported somewhere entirely different from Newcastle. We also enjoyed some classic local fish and chips at Tynemouth Castle Inn, rounding off our culinary adventure.

The night before the event, we also had the chance to grab a few pints with Dan and Cory, the representatives from Logix, which made for a great opportunity to connect and discuss the gaming industry.

Final Thoughts

Overall, our Unstoppable Gaming Event experience was thoroughly enjoyable. The event successfully blended gaming, networking, and creative industry insights, making it a fantastic day out for anyone with an interest in gaming culture. With such a strong turnout and positive reception, we wouldn’t be surprised if this event becomes a regular fixture in the UK gaming scene.

A big thank you to Ken and the Canny Clever Team, Logix, and all the organisers for putting together an event that truly celebrated the diverse world of gaming. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
